Media team scrape a win on penalties against the MLAs

In the first ever Media V's MLAs football match, which finished 2:2 at full time, the media eventually prevailed, winning 4:3 on penalties!

It was a tight match with plenty of substitutes made and no sign of a goal until the 18th minute when media team manager, Stephen Beacom brought on the big guns in the form of Stephen Nolan - and the MLAs scored! The Media team took the honours in the end, thanks to the heroics of Simpson between the posts. The media team included Nolan, Pete Snodden, veteran political reporter Eamonn Mallie and the BBCs Ireland Correspondent Mark Simpson. The MLA team fielded Conor Murphy along with Basil McCrea and Barry McIlduff. TV's Jackie Fullerton commentated the match in his usual professional manner!

First Minister Peter Robinson and Deputy First Minister Martin McGuinness arrived at the end of the game in time for the presentations. The First Minister said "These new facilities will help to increase participation right across the wider community." Congratulating NICSSA on the selection of The Pavilion as one of Northern Irelands 26 pre-games training centre for the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games in London, Mr Robinson added: "I have no doubt that the improved facilities will help to attract further major events."
