PlayBall Special Olympics Club

06 January 2011

New Special Olympics club at PlayBall!

PlayBall is delighted to announce the launch of a Special Olympics Club, which represents a unique opportunity for people with an intellectual disability to get involved in sport.

The club will focus on fun, friendships and team spirit; it's about a feeling of belonging, and ultimately improving quality of life. Special Olympics changes lives in so many different ways. Through sport, athletes develop both physically and emotionally, they make new friends, realise their dreams, and know they can fit in - Special Olympics enables them to achieve and win not only in sport but in life too. The club will cater for anyone with an intellectual disability aged six or over.

The Special Olympics Club is in its early stages; therefore we would like to get the views of local people so that we can develop the club in a way that suits you - the parent. To do this we are hosting an information evening for anyone that has an interest in the development of disability sport. A short presentation by representatives from PlayBall and Special Olympics will be followed by an open discussion on how we can take the club forward, we would value your input.

We will also be seeking to recruit a number of volunteers that will cover roles at the Special Olympics Club such as administration, finance and of course, coaching. Therefore, if you would like to get involved in this exciting initiative then why not come along to find out more on Wednesday 19th January, 7pm at the new PlayBall building at the Pavilion, Stormont. Everyone is welcome to come along, whether you are interested in volunteering, have a child that may like to join the club or just want to find out more information, we would be delighted to welcome you to PlayBall.

If you would like further information prior to this meeting please do not hesitate to contact us at PlayBall.
