Mencap Dodgeball Event at PlayBall

Mencap Dodgeball Event at PlayBall

23 September 2011

Saturday 10th September welcomed the country’s first ever Team Dodgeball Championships when PlayBall was taken over by some very keen dodgeballers from the Northern Ireland Business Community, all in aid of charity Mencap.

Over 16 teams came together and after a great pre-game warm up and brief of the rules from members of the UK Dodgeball Association, the fun began! Just over 100 games were played and in the last game of the tournament, the runners up, a group of recruits from McCracken's Bar, were pipped to the winning post by team Ctrl-Alt-Defeat from IT company Ignition.

Robert McGarry from Ignition said: "We decided to enter on a whim, and to be honest our training regime consisted of eating bacon rolls, fifteens and scones the day before! We had a great day, a fun experience and it was good for team building. Of course, it was all for charity and in
the end, Dodgeball was the winner. Well, actually, we were the winners - Go Ignition Team! We may wear capes next year".

The funds raised from this fantastic event will provide much needed support to people living with a learning disability in Northern Ireland. Mencap in Northern Ireland works in local communities with people with a learning disability and their families and carers, fighting to end discrimination and prejudice, and providing a range of advice, information and support services.
