BELFAST DEAF UNITED IN CUP FINAL RETURN

BELFAST DEAF UNITED IN CUP FINAL RETURN

19 March 2012

Congratulations to Belfast Deaf United on reaching the final of the 2012 British Deaf Cup with a hard fought 2-1 semi-final victory over Glasgow Deaf in Liverpool on Saturday.

This was a courageous victory for the local team, who train regularly at PlayBall, as they trailed for much of the game and were required yet again to call upon their famous resilience to overcome a fiercely committed Glasgow outfit. Richard Dougherty was the star Belfast Deaf performer on this occasion, his two goals proving crucial in securing a glamour final against Arsenal Deaf in Manchester on 5 May.

Belfast Deaf Utd coach Reggie Dornan reflected on the victory afterwards: "We always seem to do things the hard way. The lads started brightly, were rocked by a breakaway goal but battled well to secure the win from a tough physical encounter so the lads deserve credit. A third final in four years is a fantastic achievement for such a competitive tournament. We will work hard for the next six weeks and give it our best shot on 5 May."
