PlayBall Launch Elite Development Centre

PlayBall Launch Elite Development Centre

20 August 2013

Exciting new centre opens at PlayBall.

The purpose of the centre is to provide young footballers with an opportunity to develop their full potential in all aspects of the game including, optimising their technical performance, improving their fitness for the game, fuelling their body for peak performance and developing the right mental attitude and mindset to perform at the highest level. The players will also be put through their paces by completing a fitness test at the high performance centre at the University of Ulster, Jordanstown.

The initial pilot course, which is running for 3 days, kicked off yesterday with 16 Ridgeway Rovers and Glentoran players, at U-15 level, signing up to be taken through their paces by fully qualified and credible coaches including; Dr Jonathan Bloomfield, Applied Physiology Support Expert, Vanessa McMinn, Dietician and Roy Thomas, academy coach at Swansea City FC.

At the end of the course all players will have drawn up a plan for their development in each of the areas covered and progress will be assessed at monthly training sessions, which will take place at PlayBall, Stormont. Their developed skills will then be put to test when they swan off to Swansea for a match against the Swansea Academy select in April 2014.

Paul Shaw, PlayBall's Sports Development Officer says

'This is a unique opportunity for this group of players to experience what it is like to train like a professional footballer. They are being coached by some of the top people in the country and undoubtedly will see major benefits in their game. I see this as a big step up in the level of coaching that young players in Northern Ireland are currently receiving, with the focus not just on improving skills but looking at the complete player.'
